Description: Property mapping and associated databases have been compiled by the County of Oxford through data received from a provincial mapping and data project called POLARIS (Province of Ontario Land Registration Information System). The POLARIS database is the computerized system that stores and manages ownership data for each property in Ontario. All of the information in the POLARIS database is taken from the actual Land Registry Office documents. The County of Oxford maintains the mapping of properties in the county using information provided by Teranet, the licensed vendor of the POLARIS product. The County of Oxford also integrates assessment property information into the ownership data to show the "tax" ownership of land. Data to support this is received from MPAC, the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation. The Zoning is a consolidation of lower tier municipal zoning by-laws and updated as amendments are made by their respective Councils.
Description: A representation of the primarily natural watercourses, including rivers, lakes, marshes, and reservoirs, in Oxford County. In 2008, County of Oxford staff undertook a project to assess and consolidate a number of watercourse layers (referred to internally as drainage layers) within the County's GIS. The purpose was to have a single source of data that is referenced for both mapping and analysis, that spatially represents what is on the ground, that is consistent with the drainage layer referenced by other agencies (including provincial ministries, conservation authorities, etc), and that includes the value-added attribute information that had been attributed against various versions of the drainage layer within the County's GIS. The spatial data that was the basis for this new consolidated watercourse layer came from the Natural Resource Values Information System (NRVIS) water_segment shapefile. Additional attributes such as those that provide an indication of fish habitat (cold water, warm water and threatened or endangered species), archeological potential, etc have been transferred to this spatial data from existing drainage layers in use at the County. This data layer further includes an indication as to whether the feature is permanent or intermittent. In October, 2013, the drainage_poly coverage was converted to this geodatabase feature class and renamed Waterbody.

Description: The County of Oxford Official Plan document outlines the policies and objectives that have been established in an effort to guide and manage the use of land and resources within the county. The Official Plan was adopted by Oxford County Council in 1995, and has since been amended and expanded in response to Provincial Policy Statements and the Official Plan Review process. The digital Official Plan data layer was created to represent lands in Oxford County with designations as defined in the Official Plan document. The data is used to produce numerous schedules in the map portion of the document. It is accessible from within the county's corporate Geographic Information System (GIS) applications for use in site specific queries, analyses, etc. The data is changed through the process of application and subsequent Official Plan Amendments (OPAs) and Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) orders.
